Behind the scenes
Luxury lingerie lovers are in for a major treat. Dutch designer duo Viktor & Rolf has collaborated with the French lingerie Brand Aubade and released a stunning autumn and winter 2019 capsule collection. This collection consists of nine feminine but edgy pieces that combine some of the most beloved, signature elements that identify each of the brands.
Viktor & Rolf are no strangers to collaborations, having done several over the course of their 25 years in the design business. However, we don’t usually see them working on lingerie-related projects, so this collaboration was certainly a pleasant surprise and a successful one at that. In the words of Aubade, this collaboration is a “perfect fit…perfectly showcasing how both brands are feminine, sensual, elegant and playful”.
Aubade invited the famous fashion designers Viktor & Rolf to share their Haute Couture vision for a special capsule collection The Bow Collection for 2019 fall-winter.
Aubade: The Brain Behind the Lingerie
Aubade is a well-established point of reference in the luxury lingerie industry. Founded in the 1950’s, it started out by being an expert provider of corsetry when this element of women’s undergarments was a must. Over time, the brand has evolved to keep up with the ever-changing trends and discoveries of the lingerie world. With each decade came new and bold looks, but the idea of the power of feminine seduction has always been at the core of its products.
All pieces manage to combine the classic elegance and refinement that French lingerie is known for with comfort and practicality. A major belief of Aubade’s is that every woman has a seductive power that can be turned on at any time, and lingerie is a means of doing so. Interestingly, in most of their campaigns, the models’ faces are never shown. This is intentional, and done so in order for every woman to be able to imagine herself in the garments, using her own unique appeal to seduce the man on her mind. The idea in the collaboration with Viktor & Rolf is no different.
Viktor & Rolf: Uniting Fashion and Art
These two Dutch designers met at their design school in Amsterdam in the early 90’s, after which they teamed up and started their joint fashion career in France. They have been successful in the haute couture, ready-to-wear and perfume sectors. Known for adding creative, artistic twists to everything they do, they’ve produced some of the most impressively original fashion shows and exhibitions to this day.
Their pieces are bold, eclectic and always make a statement. Viktor & Rolf collections have some signature elements that have been reused overtime, one of which being the bow, which makes its appearance in the Aubade collaboration.

With a major concern for the environment and the damage that the fashion industry causes to it, Viktor & Rolf have made sustainability one of their main goals.
Dedicating resources to research and innovation on how materials can be reused is one way that they’re going about becoming a more sustainable brand. As Aubade is committed to producing quality pieces that last, it’s easy to see the compatibility of the two brands, making solid grounds for a successful collaboration.
Viktor & Rolf Soir SS 2018
The Aubade and Viktor & Rolf collaboration collection consists of nine pieces that are available exclusively in “soir black” and “bonbon pink” shades. The bras come in a triangle plunge style, a wireless triangle and three varieties of a half-cup. Women of all bust sizes are accounted for, with the comfort half-cup bra being suitable for larger sizes and the wireless triangle being ideal for lower support needs, for example. All bras in this collection have the same double strap feature in the back, which is both sexy and a means of extra support. Bras are carried in sizes 32B to 38E.
This collection is sexy, fun and adds a unique, fresh twist to classic lace.
Bottoms are available in a tanga, a brazilian brief and a shorty, responding to a good range of coverage preferences. An added bonus of the collection is a matching, short-sleeved top (only available in black) that could either be worn as lingerie or a normal top for a night out—it is to die for. The high quality of these pieces is apparent in the gorgeous materials—satin, tulle and lace—and the meticulous embroidering and added details throughout. The entire design revolves around the bow shape, which as mentioned, is a signature aspect of Viktor & Rolf designs.
This is a one-of-a-kind collaboration, so don’t hesitate to give one (or more) of the pieces a go.
These items are a great complement to any outfit and the bras would even serve as a lovely accessory to a transparent or lower-cut top. When haute couture designers get together with lingerie experts, the result can only be great—this team does not disappoint!
